Peacefully and with his wife and son at his side, Doug passed in the early morning of May 25, 2026.
Born in London Ontario on April 30, 1944, Doug was raised in Aylmer, Quebec and Ottawa, Ontario. While studying to become a Civil Engineer, he met his loving wife at a nursing social in Ottawa. Married in December of 1967, they welcomed a son a few years later. Together for 59 years they worked in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, travelled the world and enjoyed life.
Doug, loved his career as a Civil Engineer, through designing the roadwork for Nepean, Ontario, mountain road construction in Northern Greece, project management for DIAND and finally with Public Works Canada. After retirement he was often found enjoying RC aircraft and boats at the model airfield or pond or being with his various beloved dogs. Always an outgoing person, he will be remembered fondly by his family and friends.
Doug was predeceased by his parents, Grace and Victor Layton. He is survived by his loving, wife Kathleen; son Scott (Sunshine); grandchildren Star (Stephen) and Raven (Tamara); great grandchildren Rafael, Santiago and Sebastian; and his faithful dog Bella. He also leaves behind his extended family across the country, good friends and wonderful neighbours.
The family is thankful for all the support and condolences. Donations can be made to Cancer Care or the Alzheimer society.
