ANTONIO SANTOS
The family of Antonio Figueiredo Santos is saddened to announce his passing on Sunday, May 24, at the age of 85 years. Antonio passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at the Health Sciences Centre.
Antonio was born February 28, 1941, in Santa Barbara on the island of Santa Maria, Azores, to Jose Santos and Bernardina Figueiredo. Antonio, wife Angelina and their two children Lucia and Natalia, immigrated to Winnipeg in 1973.
When he arrived in Canada, Antonio initially worked in the laundry facility at the Health Sciences Centre but eventually became a crane operator with Genstar, where he worked for over 25 years. Antonio was known in his community as a skilled gardener and butcher. He will be remembered for his love of politics, conversation, and storytelling.
Antonio, predeceased by his wife Angelina Santos and sister Maria Coelho, is survived by daughters Lucia De Andrade and Natalia Fonseca (Riisa Walden), grandchildren Cristopher De Andrade, Selena De Andrade, Pheonix (Sophia) Fonseca, and great-grandchild Athena Rockola, siblings Jose Santos and Emilia Bairos, and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation and funeral will take place at the Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, on Saturday, May 30 at 10:00 a.m. Antonio will be laid to rest at Assumption Cemetery following the service.
