Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySILVIO BENITO CARNEVALE
With great sadness, we share the passing of Silvio Benito Carnevale, on June 11, 2026, at the age of 88. Born in Firmo, Calabria, Italy, Benito lived a life of remarkable courage, warmth, and devotion.
In 1959, with characteristic determination, Benito made the journey to Winnipeg, where he would build a beautiful life. And build is the right word. As a mason of exceptional skill, he took immense pride in his craft and looked for every opportunity to share his talents with family and friends. The work of his hands will long outlast him.
Benito was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Teresa, a proud father, and an even prouder grandfather. What truly set him apart was his deep love, respect, and appreciation for the people in his life. He had a natural gift for making friends and making people feel at home. To know him was to love him.
He filled a room with energy, warmth, and life; and wine, which he never failed to bring to anyone's table.
Benito is survived by his beloved wife, Teresa; his daughters Maria (husband Norm, and daughter Amanda and her husband Quinn), Rose (husband Trevor, and children Jaeden and Kayla), and Adriana (husband Mike, and children Hannah and Dylan); and his son Benny (wife Candace). He is also survived by his sisters Enza Gesualdo (husband Angelo), Fernanda (husband Mario, deceased), and Rita (husband Antonio, deceased); his brother Pasquale (wife Gina); and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly, and he them to a person.
He was predeceased by his mother Maria, his father Luigi, his brothers Giuseppe (wife Rosa) and Vince (wife Francesca), and his sister Franca (husband Vince).
Though he will no longer sit with us at our table - sharing his stories, debating the news, filling the room the way only he could - the memories he created will live on through everyone he loved, and everyone who loved him. He touched more lives than we may ever fully know.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue, Winnipeg, with condolences from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Or simply raise a glass at your own table in his name. He would love that.
With sadness we say goodbye, and with gratitude we say - what a life.

I first met Benito as a very young child, when he came to visit my parents. As an immigrant family from Italy, we had strong friendships with other new Italian Canadians. Life then was simpler and we spent quality time together - not staring at our phones! Benito would come to our house and not only would he visit with my parents, but he also spent time with us kids; giving us "horsey rides" on his back. Whenever I met Benito as an adult, he would remind me of those times. It made me smile to realize that the memory was as dear to him as it was for me and my siblings. I am sorry to miss the service. I away from Winnipeg until July 20th. To Teresa, his children and grandchildren, please accept my heartfelt condolences. May his memories, and exceptional joy for life sustain you in the years to come. He was an extraordinary man; a tribute to our heritage.
