It’s with great sadness we announce the passing of Cyril Edward Cave.
Cy is survived by his wife of 66 years, Norma, and by his three children and their spouses: Charles (Debbie), Andrew (Judy), and Anne (Mike). He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Parker, Lindsay, and Riley.
Cy was born on September 9, 1929 in Cape Town, South Africa. In 1953 he moved to London, England, with his childhood friend Owen, then moved to Canada and joined the 426 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he travelled extensively.
In 1959, Cy met his future wife, Norma Jean Archibald and they married shortly afterwards. He left the Air Force in 1962 and began a career with Great‑West Life, retiring at age 65, followed by six additional years with Investors Group.
Cy and Norma raised three children, and he took great pride in driving them to their many activities. When the children were young. He also loved cooking on weekends and was especially known for his skill with a wok, turning out all kinds of international dishes. Cy never asked for much for himself; unless a gift was something he could eat or drink, he preferred not to receive it - leaving a closet full of well‑intentioned presents untouched over the years.
Cy and Norma spent many years ballroom dancing and loved dressing up for the dances. After moving to Vancouver in 2002, Cy walked the city countless times as it reminded him of Cape town in his youth. He especially cherished the arrival of his grandson Riley in 2008 and loved looking after him. Riley carries Cy’s name as his middle name, given in honour of his grandfather and to continue the legacy he built.
Cy was a quiet, steady, and deeply unselfish man. He was the rock of his family, and his lifelong devotion to caring for his wife and supporting his family was immeasurable.
