MAUREEN ELIZABETH LUKACZ

January 22, 1942 - June 16, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maureen Lukacz, nee Roos. She passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026 at Seven Oaks Hospital after a short but brave fight with cancer. Maureen was an extraordinary wife, mother, sister and friend. She will be sadly missed by her devoted husband of 65 years, David Allan Lukacz and her daughters, Susan Johnston (Mark Schauerte), Allana Marshall (Liam), and Jennifer Lukacz, along with her grandchildren, Stephanie (Trevor), Patrick (Nikki) and Quinn, also her great-grandchildren, Sadie, Brooklyn and Juno. Maureen was predeceased by her foster son Andy Kroken, her sister Katherine Roos-Pavlik and her parents, Eileen and Eric Roos.

Maureen was married on March, 1961 in Winnipeg to Allan, the love of her life and best friend. Ten years later the family moved to the NWT where she became a travel agent, girl guide leader, lifeguard, potter, and made many close life-long friends. Maureen was instrumental in starting the first daycare in Fort Smith. She loved to read, do crossword puzzles, knit baby booties, go camping, travel and to zoom with her grandchildren. She was also a life-long foster parent. When technology came along, Maureen embraced the computer and cell phone and learned how to work both proficiently.

After 10 years in the North, Maureen moved back to Winnipeg to be closer to family. She continued her work as a travel agent and potter, and when she retired, taught English to new Canadians. She spent many years attending events at Vasa Lund and especially loved the choir. She was a musician herself and played a mean violin, which she taught for years. Maureen loved to cross country ski in the winter and do crosswords and gardening in the summer. She surprised us all with her first of two tattoos at age 70 and the second one at 80.

Maureen was the matriarch in our family. She was deeply loved and we will miss her beauty, humour and energy. No one could light up a room quite like her.

Cremation will take place at Voyage Funeral Home and a Celebration of Life will be held June 27, 2026 at 2:00 p.m., 280 Burrin Ave. In lieu of flowers, kindly donate to the Manitoba Camping Association Sunshine Fund. We sincerely thank the hard working, and caring nurses in the Medicine Ward at the Seven Oaks Hospital, U2 section.

Mom, we will be watching for your twinkling star in the skies and will see you in every butterfly that goes by.
