With profound sadness, Dr. John Shigeta passed away peacefully on June 11, 2026, after facing a long and arduous battle with major health issues. He was cared for by his loving wife and soulmate of 62 years, Judy.
John was born in Vancouver but mainly grew up in Winnipeg. John and Judy had two sons, Brad and Gary. As a proud father, John enjoyed Brad's music performances and played an active role in Gary's hockey games. John also served the community as President of the Assiniboia Rotary Club and President of the Manitoba Japanese Canadian Citizens' Association. As a dentist in the Assiniboia area, John provided excellent care to his patients for 29 years. After retirement, John and Judy relocated to Alberta where they cherished being an active part of the lives of their granddaughters, Katie and Megan. The girls were always Papa's greatest pride and joy!
John also leaves behind his sister, Jeannie; sisters-in-law, Shirley and Brenda (Howie) and many nephews and nieces.
John's silly sense of humour, kindness and generosity will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Rest in peace!

Barb and I send our sincere condolences to Judy and Family. We met John and Judy bowling with the Nesei League and events with the JCCA. John was always up for a good laugh and was loved by us all. Got to know John in the late 70s, also became a patient soon after meeting him. At the time I worked downtown and was a long drive to the Portage Ave location, Judy ran the office.
