MCMANES Valerie
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Valerie Joan McManes (Rogers), who was born on March 16, 1956, in Goose Bay, Labrador, and passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026, at Rideau Park Personal Care Home, with her loving family by her side, following a lengthy and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Val will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Jeff McManes; her daughter, Lacy, and son-in-law, Adam, along with their children, Lewis and Ivor; and her son, Ben McManes, and daughter-in-law, Stacie Bourgeois, together with their children, Emmit, Henry, and Elsie. She is also survived by her sisters, Karen Adam and her husband, Ross; Heather James and her husband, Jim; her brother, Miles Rogers; and many cherished nieces and nephews. Valerie grew up in an Air Force family, moving frequently throughout her childhood before eventually settling in Alexander, Manitoba, and later making Brandon her home after retirement.
Val dedicated more than 30 years of her life to caring for others as a Geriatric psychiatric nurse. She approached her work with compassion, professionalism, and kindness, touching the lives of countless patients, colleagues, and families throughout her career.
Above all else, Val treasured her family. She found great joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren, creating memories that they will carry with them always. She loved life's simple pleasures, curling up with a good book, challenging herself with crossword puzzles, and never missing an episode of NCIS. Valerie also cherished the time she spent at her cabin in Clear Lake, where she found peace, relaxation, and many happy moments with family and friends. She had a true sense of adventure and never wanted to stay in one place for too long. She loved to travel and looked forward to discovering new places and making new memories wherever she went.
Throughout her battle with Alzheimer's disease, Val remained surrounded by the love of her family, whose unwavering support and devotion brought her comfort. She will be remembered for her caring heart, quiet strength, and the love she gave so freely to those around her.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Rideau Park Personal Care Home for the exceptional care, kindness, and dignity they provided throughout Valerie's journey.
A celebration of Valerie's life will be held at the Grand Salon at the Victoria Inn on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully welcomes donations in Valerie's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
