Victoria 'Vicky' Johnston (née Stechkewich) passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026, at the age of 91. Beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, she was predeceased by her husband Paul (2005), her sisters Nadia Hanuschak (2026), Olga Nahirniak (2019), and Lily Presser (2011).
Born in Elphinstone, Manitoba, the youngest of four daughters, Vicky grew up on a modest family farm. She trained as a nurse before dedicating herself to family life. Vicky and Paul spent over 40 years in Calgary, where their home was a welcoming hub for family and friends and where they enjoyed an active life of travel, outdoor pursuits, and the arts.
In 2014, Vicky returned to Winnipeg to be closer to her sisters and their families. She built a close-knit community in Seven Oaks and remained active in her condo and beyond. She found great joy in swimming, social gatherings, and time spent with loved ones. Over the past 10 years, she was rarely seen without her bestie and sister Nadia so it is no surprise that she left this realm just weeks after Nadia’s passing on March 28th.
She is lovingly remembered by her son Jeff, daughter-in-law Denise, beloved granddaughter Sia, and niece Nadine and family. The family is grateful she lived independently and peacefully until her passing.
“Our arms are around you, Maga”
