Cranberry Woman
We sadly announce the passing of Patricia Eva Strong on June 26, 2026, after a short illness. Mom was always proud to have been born and raised in Northern Manitoba and always looked forward to when she would return. She was born October 17, 1938, in Flin Flon, Manitoba and passed in Renfrew, Ontario.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Orval Strong, mom and dad Margaret and Alfred (Curly) Head, sisters Irma Head, Rose Wright, Gwen Cook, and brothers Alfred Head (Jr), Philip Gagnon, daughter Valerie and son Mike Chabot (March 2026). Nephews Dennis Head, Arnie Head and Irvin Head.
Mom is survived by her sisters Lillian Benoit, Leona Head, children-Gary Moodie, Lyle Moodie, Deb Detremaudan, Roland Chabot, stepchildren Eric (Leslie) Strong and Sheila Strong, nephews and nieces and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mom had an incredible work ethic, and nothing was more important than providing for her family. As a single mother in Northern Manitoba, she would work 3+4 jobs to make sure we had what we needed. She was a workaholic that had to be busy right to the end, at the nursing home, staff had a hard time keeping track of her as she was always on the go. Growing up in Northern Manitoba mom liked fishing, picking berries and played ball.
When we were fishing and no one was getting bites, she would start her “here fishy, fishy” mantra. Sure, enough she would start getting nibbles and the rest of us would get skunked. She loved to laugh and have fun.
Orval and mom went on many travel adventures; they really enjoyed South Carolina. They made regular visits back to Cranberry Portage to visit family and friends including but not limited to Gerrard and Lisa, Gail, Lena.
Mom financed some of the trips by selling ceramic mugs, plates, etc and skirts /clothing along the Powow trail to and from Manitoba. Mom loved to visit with other vendors and would talk to anyone that had the time. Orval lightheartedly suggested it was a money losing trip.
A graveside ceremony will be held in Matawatchan, Ontario on Thursday, July 16 at 11:00 a.m.
