CAROL JOY WOOD

(née ANDERSON)

September 11, 1966 – July 9, 2026

On 9th July 2026, in South Indian Lake, Manitoba while working with the EMO team during the community evacuation due to wildfires, Carol unexpectedly lost her life.

Carol “Galoos” was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, in-law and friend that will be missed dearly. She is survived by her husband Brian; four children Brian Jr., Kailey, Alexandra, and Lianna. She also leaves behind her brothers William, Keith (Bertha), Melvin (Myrna), Dennis (Lisa), and Vernon (Tammy); sisters Sandra, Lianna and Hilda (Anderew); as well as granddaughters Hannah, Heaven, Harmony, Jaymee, and Jessa; grandsons Cody, Alfred, Axel, Carter, Logan P, James Jr., Alexander, and Bubba Logan; and great-granddaughter Nyella, numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.

Carol is reunited with son James and daughter Devin Wood; Mother Minnie (nee Gossfeld) and Father Bill Anderson; brother Burnell and sister Dawn Anderson.

Carol was born in The Pas, Manitoba, raised and lived in South Indian Lake, Manitoba. There she met and married husband Brian Wood and began their life together raising their children. Throughout the years, Carol worked in the Finance Departments of the former Community Association of South Indian Lake, O-Pipon-Na-Piwin Cree Nation and Tommy Thomas Memorial Health Complex. Volunteering at many events and gatherings, Carol’s presence was always throughout the community.

Carol carried the warmth of late summer with her all her life. Her greatest loves were her husband, children, grandchildren, family and community. She was the “go-to” auntie and mother figure for many. She was everyone's safe place, always making sure everyone was well fed and smiling.

She found rhythm in the great outdoors. Her perfect day was measured in the miles of peaceful walks in nature. Carol had a gift for finding the sacred in the ordinary. Her camera was her second set of eyes. It captured what her heart already knew but wanted to share with everyone else. The dance of the Northern Lights painting the night sky, the silver wake of footsteps in shallow water, and the delicate jewels of morning dew upon a spider’s web. Through her unconditional love, photographs and everlasting ray of shining light, Carol taught us how to love each other and the simplest of all things in nature.

Wake services are in Winnipeg, Manitoba at Eternal Grace Funerals on 24 July 2026, from 6:30 p.m. -10:00 p.m. at 10 - 1111 Logan Avenue; and Leaf Rapids Education Centre on 25th July 2026, from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in Leaf Rapids, Manitoba followed by funeral service on 26th July 2026, starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Leaf Rapids Education Centre. All services in Leaf Rapids will be accessible by the playground entrance only.
