FATHER CARL TARNOPOLSKI

On July 25, 2026, Father Carl Tarnopolski; priest of the Archdiocese of St. Boniface, left this earth to continue his journey with the Heavenly Father into everlasting life.

Father Carl was born in Armstrong, British Columbia to Carl Tarnopolski and Anna Piece on June 3, 1947. Ordained to the priesthood in the Archdiocese of St. Boniface on May 19, 1973, in the Happy Thought School gymnasium by Archbishop Antoine Hacault. Father Carl ministered to many parishes in the Archdiocese of St. Boniface during his 53 years of priesthood. His ministry had three forms; his pastoral ministry with 25 years of service as the Vicar General as well as the Chancellor for seven years in the Archdiocese of St. Boniface. The second part of his ministry started in 2002, continuing through three bouts of cancer and one of bowel obstruction. The third phase of his ministry continues as terminal cancer, when he opted for end of life care.

Father Carl is extremely grateful for all those who provided him with wonderful care at this time; and for those who accepted many of his gifts.

He is survived by two brothers, Patrick (Brenda), Eugene (Elizabeth) and two sisters, Mary (Terry) Whitwell, Frances (Franny) Hallson and many nieces and nephews.

Prayer Vigil will take place at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church in Selkirk, Manitoba. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, August 6 at 10:30 am at the St. Boniface Cathedral. A viewing will be held prior to Mass from 9:30 am to 10:20 am. A luncheon will follow in the Cathedral Hall and a burial will take place at the East Selkirk Cemetery at 2:30 pm.

Donations to the CancerCare Manitoba, Canadian Cancer Society, or to St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in East Selkirk would be greatly appreciated.
