TYRONE KAFKA
After a sudden, short and unexpected illness, Tyrone "Ty" Kafka passed away in Grace Hospital on July 10, 2026, at the age of 81 years.
From childhood polio to other life-threatening illnesses, experiences and challenges in early life, Ty not only overcame effects he would carry throughout life, he thrived; it seemed that it all amplified a will to succeed and enjoy life with zest and sense of humour.
Ty always worked hard to support his family and in the 1970's he fulfilled a dream to attain his Education degree, followed by a teaching profession and students that he dedicated himself to until his retirement.
Ty simply loved being alive, he let nothing hold him back and pursued the things he loved to do. He was athletic: a regular in floor hockey, ice hockey, a pickup game of touch football, cycling. Take it from those he played against, he was a tough competitor. He was also a long time fan of the Jets and especially his Blue Bombers.
In his 40's, Ty had a revelation that golf was not as boring as he always thought it must be. One round was all it took to start what would became a great joy and passion in his last half of life. It was a pastime he enjoyed with friends and family until he was physically no longer able to play, just a couple of years ago.
Ty is survived by son Kelly (Colleen), granddaughter Hailey, son-in-law Kevin, brother Carl (Yvonne), brother-in-law Tim (Marlene), sister-in-law Gerrie (late Brian), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by wife and love of his life Shirley, daughter Eileen, parents Cecile and Carl, father/mother-in-law Tom and Eileen, sisters Joan (late Gordon) and Eileen (Dave), infant brother Penece.
In lieu of flowers, consider donation to the charity of your choice.
A private family service will be held.
