DARLENE KUARSINGH

It is with great sadness that the family of Darlene Kuarsingh announces her passing at her home in Winnipeg, on July 26, 2026, at the age of 87.

Darlene was born in Princes Town, Trinidad, to Sumintra and Sudama Mahabir. She grew up in a large family alongside her siblings Rosie, Bia, Bebe, Mynoo, Belle, Long, Marjorie, Irene, Lynette and Roger.

On March 12, 1967, Darlene married Sonnylal Kuarsingh. Together they welcomed three children in Trinidad, David, Delano and Karlene; before immigrating to Canada in 1974. They made Winnipeg their home for the remainder of their lives, first living on Logan Avenue, the street after which their grandson Logan was lovingly named, and later settling in St. Vital, where their youngest daughter, Crystal, was born.

Darlene was an expert seamstress, both by trade and by passion. With her beloved Singer sewing machine, she created everything from intricate wedding gowns and luxurious curtains to beautiful custom clothing for her children and, later, her grandchildren. Her talent, precision and creativity were evident in everything she made.

Her Christian faith guided and comforted her throughout most of her life. She loved Jesus deeply and passionately shared her faith with the people around her. Her strong values and core beliefs continue to live on through her children and grandchildren.

Darlene was happiest when her family was gathered together to celebrate holidays, birthdays and other milestones. She loved music of many kinds, from the steel pan and calypso music of her youth in Trinidad to classic Christian hymns and modern worship songs. Her favourites also included Engelbert Humperdinck, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. She enjoyed classic films, with Doctor Zhivago holding a special place as her favourite.

Darlene was predeceased by her beloved husband, Sonnylal Kuarsingh, in 2007; her parents, Sumintra and Sudama Mahabir; and her siblings Rosie, Bia, Bebe, Mynoo, Belle, Long, Marjorie and Roger.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, David (Krista), Delano (Wendi), Karlene and Crystal (Michal); her grandchildren, Joshua, Caleb, Noah, Esther, Penelope and Logan; her sisters, Irene and Lynette; and her many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

The family takes comfort in Darlene’s steadfast faith and in the belief that she has been reunited with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

A funeral service celebrating Darlene’s life will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at New Beginnings Church, 1073 St. Mary’s Road, Winnipeg. Light refreshments will follow the service. Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m. at St. Vital Cemetery, 236 River Rd.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Darlene’s memory to Diabetes Canada and Siloam Mission.

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me.” (Psalm 23:4)
