JAMES MARTIN KOMISHON

“Every day is a blessing.”

James (Jim) passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on July 28, 2026, at the age of 92.

Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ruth; his father, Samuel; mother, Natalie (Nellie); and sisters, Frances, Helen, Marilyn, and Olga (Ollie). He will be lovingly remembered by his children, James (Donna), Randall (Sandra), Glenn (Corrine), Kristin Hammersley (Robert), and Katherine Komishon-Park (David); his 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Jim was a loving and devoted husband to Ruth, sharing 67 years of marriage. He built a successful 38-year career in the electrical industry, defined by dedication, integrity, and hard work. An avid lifelong athlete, Jim was a proud member of the 1952 Winnipeg Light Infantry junior basketball team that captured the Canadian National Championship - an achievement honoured by their induction into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. Outside of basketball, he enjoyed fastball, curling, and golf. He was a die-hard Blue Bombers fan, proudly attending his last game at the age of 91. Jim had a deep passion for music, raising his voice in song with both Lutheran and Mennonite choirs over the years. Above all, he found his greatest joy in life’s simple pleasures: tending to his garden, singing, preparing delicious meals, and sharing good food and laughter, surrounded by family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on August 13, 2026, at St. James Lutheran Church, 871 Cavalier Drive, Winnipeg.

The family extends sincere gratitude to Dr. Bristow, the staff on Medicine 3 at the Health Sciences Centre, and the staff and his tablemates at The Wellington for their care and companionship. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
