Anne Philomena Thompson (nee Cooney) July 31, 1958, Finglas, Dublin, Ireland - August 2, 2026, Calgary, Alberta.
Anne Thompson, beloved wife of the late James "Jim" Thompson of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the age of 68 years.
Anne was born in Finglas, Dublin, Ireland, on July 31, 1958. She moved to Winnipeg, MB, Canada, in 1977, where she met Jim, and they married in 1989. They spent many lovely years together in Winnipeg, Victoria, BC, and Calgary, where they raised Kevin and James.
Anne will always be remembered for her generosity, kindness, and boundless gift-giving. She loved going back to Ireland to spend time with her family, where she created many wonderful memories, such as eating chips and 99s in her favourite place, Skerries. Ireland's economy grew in the weeks Anne took to the shops to buy presents for her family and friends.
She was passionate about entertaining, always getting everyone together for dinner parties and games nights. She was an amazing cook, and her table was overflowing with everyone's favourite foods. You just had to mention a dish you liked, and she went out of her way to make it for you. She loved experimenting and trying new foods, and without fail they were always incredible. Her cakes were not only delicious, but she put so much creativity into decorating a special, themed birthday cake for each individual person.
Anne had an incredible work ethic and was a well-respected manager and mentor. Her calm and patient nature helped her employees thrive.
She will be remembered for the encouragement she gave her sons in pursuing their hobbies across all types of sports, music, and games. Anne had such a big heart that she not only raised her own boys but always welcomed all their friends into her home, becoming a second mother to all of them.
We have lost our lovely, amazing mom, mother-in-law, grandma, sister, auntie, and friend. Anne, you were loved by so many people; you will always be in our lives and our hearts.
Anne is survived by her sons, Kevin, James (Lauren), and Dan (Sarah); her brothers and sisters, Con, Deirdre, Bobby, Brian, Siobhan, Pauline, Terry, Eoin, and their respective spouses; grandchildren, Justyn, Emily, and Evan; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Jim Thompson; and her parents, Annie and Con Cooney.
The family is planning to hold a service at a later date. Please check back for the details when it is announced.
Anne's family would like to say thank you to all the staff at Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre, especially Dr. Evan, for your gentle and kind approach, as well as all of the staff at the Intercare Chinook Hospice, especially Donna.
