Helen Alexandra Trainor (nee Anderson) passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on August 3, 2026 at Red River Place Care Home in Selkirk MB.
Helen will be missed by her four sons, Clifton (Cheryl), Desmond, Lyall and Chris (Lucy) and grandchildren, Melissa, Cameron, Branson, Jessica, Stephanie and Aleah as well as her brothers, Lorne and Bruce, sisters-in-law Lynn and Margaret and many nieces nephews, friends and extended family.
She is predeceased by her husband Bert, parents: Minnie and Alex Anderson, grandson: Dustin siblings: Mervin, Ross, Edwin, Bernice, Erma, Franklin, Calvin and Donna.
Helen was born on March 13, 1931, the sixth of eleven children. She lived her entire life in Victoria Beach. She attended the Victoria Beach school, sold vegetables to cottagers in the summer and later worked at Mrs. Falls store and Einfeld’s Bakery. After local schooling, she went to Success Business College in Winnipeg.
In August of 1949, Helen married returned airman Bert. Together with their boys, they ran a successful mink and cattle ranch as well as horseback riding stables. In the early 1960’s they began to develop cottage lots for sale and continued to do so for many years. Helen became a Real Estate broker and created Trainor Realty where she thrived on selling local real estate.
She enjoyed working at Walter Whyte School for a number of years as a Resource teacher helping kids who needed speech therapy. In the early 1980’s she and Bert began the Trainor Artesian Water Company.
Helen and Bert found great joy in hosting children either in their home or at the church to teach Sunday school where the children always received a serving of her wonderful homemade bread and buns that she was well known in the community for.
She was a proud member of the Merry Makers for most of her life. She spent countless years volunteering in the St. Michael’s Church and managing the Victoria Beach Pioneer Cemetery.
Helen had an incredibly sharp memory and was able to recount local events with great detail which made her a favorite visit for anyone looking for historical facts about Victoria Beach and local families. She was so proud of her community of people who settled here from all over the world.
Her sons would like to give a special thank you to the dedicated home care workers. Your visits meant so much to our mom and we appreciate the joy that you found in her. Also to Lynn for all that you did, and to Branson & Whitney who slept most nights at Gramma Helen’s to ensure her safety for the night.
Helen was joyful, beautiful and had an amazing sense of humor. She will be dearly missed.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at the Beaches Community Centre #65 Hwy 59, Victoria Beach on October 16, 2026 at 2:00 pm.
