It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our husband, father, Gido, uncle, and friend, Frank Rudnicki.
Survived by his loving wife Joanne; daughters, Vanessa (Kyle), Candace (David), and Michelle (Evan); grandchildren, Kayin, Juwon, Emma, and Rowen; and his faithful, four-legged companion Archie, his passing has left a gaping hole in our hearts and our lives. He was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Anna Rudnicki, and sister Betty.
It’s difficult to know where to begin when trying to summarize someone’s impact on your life (and the lives of so many others). A few paragraphs hardly seems enough… but for those who knew him best, they will be supplemented by countless stories and cherished memories.
Born and raised in Fisher Branch, it was also where he met Joanne, his wife of over 50 years, in the same small town they both called home. They moved to Winnipeg in 1976, where they remained until deciding to come back home to Fisher Branch in 1984.
Frank and Joanne celebrated their wedding on July 10, 1976. They remained married over five decades, raising their family of three girls on ‘Rabbit Hill’ in Fisher Branch, just a short walk away from Frank’s parents. Together, Frank and Joanne watched their family grow, joined by a number of pets along the way, enjoying countless hours exploring on Rabbit Hill (or hunting for the ‘swamp monster’), fishing and camping at Mantago Lake, Lake St. George, or the Narrows, traveling, including trips to Maui, Oahu, Disney World, Alaska, Cape Coral, Palm Springs, the east coast, and more, all while enjoying as much family time as possible. Frank also enjoyed hunting and being outdoors, taking a number of hunting trips with friends and family over the years. He always had an appreciation for the beauty found in the most remote parts of Manitoba, surrounded by wildlife and untouched wilderness.
Frank worked for MTS for 38 years. His work took him all over the Interlake and often to remote communities, spending countless hours on the road and sometimes even in the air.
Recently, Frank and Joanne moved to Grindstone, MB, downsizing from their long-time home in Fisher Branch and their cottage at Lake St. George, to begin their later years in a new home on the lake. Frank put countless hours into turning a shell of a house into a home, painstakingly completing so many tasks on his own and with the help of his grandson, Kayin. We hope he knows how beautiful the home is and that all of the work he put into the space will forever be appreciated. While at Grindstone for only a short time, many family memories and celebrations were shared, most recently, their 50th wedding anniversary where we feasted on amazing food, shared stories, and made new memories we’ll always cherish.
All throughout his years up until his last days, Frank loved nothing more than having his family by his side joking, laughing, and sharing stories from his younger years, whether around the kitchen table, out on the boat, or enjoying the sunshine on the deck. His family meant the world to him and he was always there for us whenever we needed him.
His grandchildren leave the following words about Gido: “he was funny and kind, told great jokes…” and they loved talking to him, going boating and fishing, driving the quad, snowmobiling and riding on the back of the sled, flying RC planes, and racing cars. “We will miss him a lot.”
Words cannot express our sadness and the void left in our hearts. Forever remembered, always loved… til we meet again.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later time.
