Dieter Weissgaerber passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026. Survived by his wife of 55 years, Darlene; children, Susan (Kevin) Bernhardt and Phil (Amber); seven grandchildren; and sister Tusnelda. Predeceased by father Rudolf (1945), mother Ottilie (1992), and brother-in-law Horst (2013), who was like a father to Dieter.
Dieter was born on October 31, 1942, in German-occupied Poland. He grew up with fond memories of playing basketball at Sisler High School. Sports remained a lifelong passion, from playing basketball well into his 50s to watching his son and grandsons play hockey and baseball, and cheering on his Philadelphia Eagles. Although an excellent student, Dieter left school in Grade 10 to care for his mother and grandmother, beginning a lifelong career as a Journeyman Electrician.
Dieter met Darlene at the German Club and they married in 1971. The birth of their children brought him great joy. A committed husband and father, he protected and deeply cared for his family. Summers at the cottage in Hillside Beach were filled with swimming, boating, and time together.
Dieter will be remembered for his soft, generous heart and ferocious love for his family. He will be dearly missed.
