Reverend Monsignor Michael L. Moore died on Friday, August 7, 2026, in Morris, Manitoba.
Michael was born to Milton and Jean (Carmichael) Moore on November 20, 1940, in Winnipeg. The family attended St. Ignatius Parish where Michael was baptized and later attended St. Ignatius School, and then St. Paul’s High School. Michael worked for a number of years for the City of Winnipeg audit department before studying for the priesthood at St. Boniface Seminary and St. Augustine’s Seminary (Toronto).
Michael was ordained a priest by His Eminence George B. Cardinal Flahiff on May 16, 1970, in St. Ignatius Church. Father Michael served the following parishes in Winnipeg: St. Edward’s, St. Mary’s Cathedral, St. Patrick’s, St. Peter’s, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, St. Charles, and St. Anthony of Padua. He also served St. Michael’s Parish and Missions (Gimli) and Sacred Heart Parish and Missions (Virden). Father Michael served as chancellor and financial administrator of the Archdiocese of Winnipeg.
On January 16, 1984, Father Michael was invested as “Prelate of Honour” with the title of Monsignor. He also served as chaplain in the Canadian Army Reserve Force, chaplain for the Serra Club, spiritual advisor for the Catholic Women’s League Provincial Council, and state chaplain for the Knights of Columbus.
After retirement, Monsignor Michael served as sacramental minister at St. Ann’s Parish (Winnipeg) for six years. Monsignor Michael was grateful to be able to share a retirement home with his good friend David Gillie.
Monsignor Michael was predeceased by his parents; brothers Peter, James, Tom, Joe, Paul, Philip, and Bill; and his sister Janet. He is survived by his brother Bernard and many extended family members.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Ignatius Parish, 255 Stafford St., Winnipeg, with interment immediately following in the Priest’s Section at Assumption Cemetery.
