Peter Isaac Harms, age 91, of Steinbach, MB, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2026, at St. Boniface Hospital after a brief illness.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Frieda in 1987, son-in-law Murray Phillips, as well as by sisters- and brothers-in-law.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda (husband Rob and daughters, Amanda and Megan), Evelyn (stepchildren, Christine, James, and Jon, and their families), and Alice, and estranged son Paul. He is also survived by his brothers, Henry and Jacob, and sister Elisabeth and their families.
Peter will be remembered as a gentle and caring man. He spent his working years as a clerk at CT Loewen and Sons, the one the contractors trusted to know what they wanted. He also spent many, many hours serving at Steinbach Mennonite Church as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Bible study leader, and Lay minister. After retiring from the lumber yard, he was often seen visiting at Bethesda hospital and various care homes in Steinbach. Even if he didn’t know you, he would have a friendly smile and word of encouragement.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Peter may be made to Mennonite Central Committee or to the Mennonite Heritage Village Museum.
