On August 2, 2026, Mike Devlin, a well-loved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend passed away peacefully at Gimli Health Centre after facing health challenges with courage and a determined, matter-of-fact approach.
Born in Saskatoon to Janet and Art Devlin on January 26th, 1938, Mike grew up with sister Linda (Bob) on the family farm west of Poplarfield. He married Emily (née Berg) in 1959, settling first in Winnipeg, then moving to Gimli in 1975. They were the proud parents of three sons, amazing grandparents of eight, and thrilled great-grandparents of six.
Memorable times were spent with family and friends playing, watching or coaching sports, at the lake, boating, gardening, attending milestone celebrations, and around the family dinner table. He recently expressed his belief that he was honoured to have had such a good life with family and friends.
Mike set an example with his commitment to hard work, community involvement, and family. He spoke often of his work and the people he met during his many years at Feed-Rite Winnipeg, as an owner of Scientific Feed, Arborg beginning in 1975, and in his pre-retirement career change to certified financial planner and life insurance agent. He was a Kinsmen and Lions member and a founding director of Westshore Community Foundation. He was active in Gimli curling and weekly golf league, and enjoyed lawn bowling, tai chi, and ukelele groups at Gimli New Horizons. One of his lasting requests was the development of the Devlin Family Legacy Fund that will live on to support community interests and activities.
Mike was predeceased by his beloved wife, Emily, in June 2024. Survived by his sons, Scot (Darlene), Kent (Donna), and Doug (Lucy); grandchildren, Taylor (Travis), Kaly (Joel), Jessica (Jesse), Brenna (Mitchell), Calum (Quinn), Rhett (Sinclaire), Tanner (Charlene), and Micah (Kyle); great-grandchildren, Jack, Kaleb, Noah, Kieran, Remi, and Hayden; sister, Linda (Bob); extended family and many friends will greatly miss his strong spirit, guidance, interest in life, wisdom, humour, singing of silly songs, and ukulele playing.
The family is sincerely grateful for the outstanding care and support of the staff of Gimli Home Care, Seniors Resource, Gimli Health Centre, Selkirk Hospital, and Health Sciences Centre, and the compassionate support of friends.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
If family or friends so desire, a donation in Mike’s memory may be made to the Devlin Family Legacy Fund through Westshore Community Foundation or to a charity of your choosing.
