DARREL RICHARD JOSEPH MAYNARD

March 17, 1985 - August 5, 2026

In Loving Memory of

It is with profound sadness, and deep gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, that we announce the passing of Darrel Richard Joseph Maynard, who passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026, at the age of 41, following a courageous three-year battle with cancer.

Born and raised in Saint-Malo, Manitoba, Darrel grew up in a close-knit, loving family where faith, hard work, humility, and compassion shaped the man he became. Quiet by nature, he possessed remarkable strength of character. He was fiercely loyal, deeply kind, and someone whose steady presence brought comfort to those around him.

Darrel is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife Francine (nee Marcotte); and their beloved sons, Colin and Christian, who were the greatest pride and purpose of his life. He is also remembered by his parents, Marc and Gisèle Maynard; his siblings, Patrick (Carmen), Joanne (Marc), Léo (Reena), Hervé (Nicole), and Denise (Matt); his parents-in-law, Richard and Louise Marcotte; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Maxine and Theron LaGarde; and his extended family and many dear friends.

Meeting Francine changed the course of Darrel’s life. Together, they built their dream home in Grande Pointe, travelled, embraced adventure, and created a beautiful life with their boys. They believed life was meant to be experienced together and never postponed for “someday.”

For nearly two decades, Darrel proudly served his community as a firefighter, earning the rank of Lieutenant. Yet his most treasured roles were husband and father. A devoted hockey coach, he spent countless hours at the arena and travelling to tournaments, always present to encourage and guide his boys.

When diagnosed with cancer in 2023, Darrel faced it with quiet courage, determination, gratitude, and faith. Cancer became part of his journey, but it never defined his life. He continued making memories, celebrating milestones, and cherishing time with those he loved.

Darrel’s legacy lives in his family, the community he served, and the example he set: cherish your family, take the adventure, be grateful for ordinary days, and never wait for “someday.”

Prayers will commence Friday, August 21, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Boniface Cathedral, 180 De la Cathedrale Ave., Winnipeg, MB, with the Funeral Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. The burial will follow the service at Ile des Chênes Catholic Cemetery, 478 Notre Dame Bay E., Ile des Chênes, MB, and a reception at TC Energy Centre, 1 Rivard St., Ile des Chênes, MB.

Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever in our hearts.
