On Friday, August 7, 2026, after a five-year battle with ALS, Barb’s journey came to a peaceful end at Boundary Trails Health Centre.
She leaves to mourn her loving husband of 48 years, Ken; children, Teri (Lauren) and Chris (Krista-Lynn); her adored grandchildren, Brody and Sadie; along with siblings, Bruce, Fred and Beth, many nieces and nephews, numerous beloved cousins and too many cherished friends to mention by name.
Born in Minnedosa, Manitoba to Shirley Wilton (née Bond) and Donald Wilton, Barb’s biggest joys in life were music and singing. She spent her childhood and adolescence in Winnipeg, before obtaining a degree from the University of Manitoba and taking a job teaching Kindergarten.
Her career took her from the city back to the country where she taught in Carman and Miami for five years. In 1978, she married Ken Stevens and together they ran Stevens Drug Store for 28 years, raised two children and welcomed two grandchildren.
When Barb found out she had ALS, she courageously faced her diagnosis head on, and took everything day by day. She pursued quality of life above all, and kept singing, playing mahjong, and visiting with family and friends.
Heartfelt thanks to Marnie Fry and team, the Carman Handi-Van, Southern Health palliative care and all the visitors who joined her for coffee, supported her and kept her laughing.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Carman Community Hall. Memorial donations can be made to the Carman Handi-Van or the ALS Society of Manitoba.
