Muriel Nellie Olmstead passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at Rideau Personal Care Home. Her family was by her side supported by Rideau's Care Team. Muriel was born in lngelow, MB on April 29, 1928. She married Thomas Wilburn "Wib" Olmstead and they farmed in the Petrel district until his unexpected passing in 1978. Following his death, Mother moved multiple times between Carberry and Brandon. She finally settled in Brandon to be near her daughter and grandson.
After a house fire in the 1960's, she worked at the Carberry Memorial Hospital, Fantasy Creations in Brandon, Solo store in Carberry and Boo's Boutique.
Muriel will be missed by her daughter, Janet Olmstead Wood, her grandson Gregory Wood and his wife, Candice Bugg. She was predeceased by her father, David Mitchell in 1959, Mother Nellie Mitchell in 1999, her brother John Mitchell, her twin sister Mary (Mae) Earl in 2022 and her younger sister Elsie in 2022.
Mother loved to sew, crochet, and cook. She was always trying out new recipes for her family to enjoy. She was always up to listening about our days at work, Greg's sports or music or helping to proof read our essays for school.
We would like to thank all the staff at Rideau Personal Care Home for their excellent care over the years she lived there after her stroke.
A time of visitation will take place at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 28, 2016 at Carberry United Church, 608 3rd Ave., Carberry, MB at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Carberry Cemetery with lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
