Charles Bruce McDonald, affectionately known as Chuck, Char, and Papa, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, at the age of 84. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he grew up in St. James, attended the University of Manitoba, earned a Bachelor of Science in Zoology, and proudly played hockey for the Manitoba Bisons.
Chuck built a distinguished pharmaceutical career with Merck Frosst and Schering-Plough, holding senior leadership roles in Canada, India, and the United States. Known for his charisma, positivity, strong work ethic, and genuine care for people, Chuck loved family, golf, photography, travel, fitness, music, and Falcon Lake.
At the center of his life was his beloved wife, Marilyn, whose love, partnership, and devotion shaped every chapter of his journey and supported him through the end. He passed away at the age of 84 in Santa Clarita, California, their beloved adopted home of more than 30 years. He is survived by Marilyn (nee Marsh); daughter Nancy and Dave Kimbrough, with children Jake and Emma; son Brad and Michelle, with Kyle, Ashton, Jack and Ty Neasmith; son Bruce and Melissa, with Liam, Nolan and Emmett; and brother Jack. He was predeceased by his parents, Bruce and Betty, and his brother Doug. His guiding philosophy was simple: “Always be positive.” The family will honour his memory at a later date.
