Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJUNE MARILYN BROWN
It is with great heartache that we announce the passing of June Brown on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Seven Oaks Hospital in Winnipeg.
June will be deeply missed by her children, Jeff Brown (Eva), Steve Brown (Melanie), Cindylou Garcea (Danny), and grandchildren, Daniela (Kyle), Isabella, Julia (Armin), Madison (Bennett), and Matteo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Mary Schwartz and her husband of 57 years, Mervin (Merv) Brown.
Born in Winnipeg, June grew up on Galloway Street and attended Issac Newton High School. She met Merv at CP Rail where she worked as a key punch operator, and they married shortly thereafter on August 6, 1960. With the exception of living very briefly in Brampton, Ontario, together June and Merv established a beautiful home for their family in Garden City. It was a home overflowing with love, laughter, and the pitter patter of the family dogs (Duke, Brandy, Amy, Fortune and Ariel).
June’s interests and hobbies were varied and numerous. A passion ignited for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers very early in life. In 1959, she and her girlfriends not only made their way to the Grey Cup Championship in Toronto, but were also captured by a newspaper photographer exuberantly cheering on their hometown team atop a float in the Grey Cup parade. A lifelong fan, June cheered on her team right up to her final days. Hockey also held a very special place in her heart. As an athlete in her own right, she excelled at track and field and fastball in her early years and later took up bowling and curling. Wednesday morning games were often followed by burgers for lunch that she would bring home as a treat for her kids from the West Kildonan Curling Club. Beyond all the sports, she taught Sunday School for a time, and over the years, her creativity was fuelled through a myriad of sewing, crafting and baking projects.
In later years, June’s home was buzzing with the active comings and goings of her five grandchildren. The grandkids all have fond memories of "Granny" attending sports games, recitals and lessons and could be counted on, without fail, to bring them bags of snacks for the car rides home. In recent years family visits to Granny’s frequently included the granddogs and great-granddogs who were generally the first through the door and would head straight for their own special treat drawer.
Always thinking of others first, June lived her life in the most selfless of ways. Everyone knew she was just a phone call away to lend a listening ear and to provide encouraging words. June Brown was a kind and caring soul who saw the best in the people around her.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to the nursing staff of Unit 4, 3rd floor, at Seven Oaks Hospital for their care and compassion.
In keeping with June’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place and a private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers - should you wish to make a meaningful tribute to June’s life; we ask that you consider a donation to a local animal rescue shelter of your choosing.
