DWIGHT DOUGLAS EMBLETON

1946 - 2026

Peacefully, on July 27 after a long valiant struggle, Dwight passed away at the age of 79 years.

He will be forever missed by his loving wife Joan and his much-loved sons, David and Scott as well as his two grandsons who meant the world to him, Benjamin and Aaron.

Dwight and Joan were soulmates, they shared a deep and abiding love that spanned over 50 years of the highs and lows of ordinary life.

Family was everything to Dwight and he was a wonderful father, the biggest cheerleader in the good times and a sympathetic ear when things got tough. He provided guidance, wisdom, humour and love. Whether it was Jets games, Detroit Lakes, Disney World, Expo 86, World Cup (Chicago 94), Formula One in Montreal and Indy Car in Wisconsin or just lazy summer days at the cottage and backyard BBQs, they were all special times to him. Dwight was also thankful that he had the opportunity to be a part of his grandsons’ lives into their teen years. We will cherish many happy memories of our life together.

Dwight had a rewarding lifelong career in sales. First as a manufacturers agent in the fashion industry, then later enjoying success in real estate. His customers often became good friends appreciating his integrity, laid back approach and humour.

Unfortunately, the onset of his illness robbed Dwight of quality of life during his retirement years. We are thankful to know he is now at peace.

Dwight’s family thanks the many friends and family who reached out and walked this journey with us. This meant so much to us all. We also thank River Park Gardens, Dwight’s home for the past two and one half years where he received compassionate and loving care.

A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held on Sunday, September 20, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Norwood Hotel. Tributes at 3:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, hug a loved one, extend a kindness to another and enjoy a good martini.

We don’t have tomorrow,

but we had yesterday.

  • Very sorry to read about Dwight's passing. He fell into the "nice guy" category in the sales field. I first met Dwight at United College and then later in life when I was a shoe sales agent. We met numerous times and always had a good laugh together. Condolences to his family. - Posted by: Bob Law (Fellow sales agent) on: Aug 22, 2026
