In Loving Memory
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leslie Kenneth Castel, who passed away on August 18, 2026, at the age of 62.
Leslie was born on August 10, 1964, in The Pas, Manitoba. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Phyllis Castel, with whom he shared 38 years of marriage, and their five children: Kenneth Castel, Tanya Castel, Miner Castel, Darcene Castel, and Leslie Castel Jr. He also leaves behind his many cherished grandchildren, along with his extended family, relatives, friends, and the many people whose lives he touched throughout the years.
Leslie started working in 1985 as a helper along side with his dad Lawerence as a carpenter and endured his Red Seal Journeyman by trade and dedicated 39 years of his working life to the Cross Lake Housing Department and tragically had to leave his job in 2024 to his sickness. Through his many years of hard work, he was known as a provider and a man who took pride in what he did.
An outdoorsman at heart, Leslie loved fishing, hunting and enjoyed spending time on the land. Sports were also an important part of his life. He devoted his time to coaching youth in the community, sharing his knowledge, encouragement, and guidance with young athletes. He was a long time member of Hockey Manitoba and Softball Ball Manitoba.
One of Leslie’s greatest joys was watching the young people he coached grow and develop, not only as athletes but as people. He took great pride in seeing what they accomplished over the years and knowing that he had played a part in guiding and encouraging them.
Above all, Leslie dearly loved his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching them participate in their many sporting activities and supported them every chance he could. He travelled with them to tournaments, encouraged them in their athletic endeavours, and took great pride in watching them grow and succeed.
Leslie will be remembered as a husband, father, grandfather, provider, carpenter, outdoorsman, coach, mentor, and friend. His years of dedication to his family, his work, the youth he coached, and his community have left behind a legacy that will continue through the many lives he touched.
Leslie’s body will return home to Cross Lake, Manitoba, on Sunday, August 23, 2026, via Perimeter, accompanied by his wife and family.
Wake services will be held at his home in Cross Lake, Manitoba.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church in Cross Lake.
Leslie will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, children, grandchildren, family, friends, and community.
