It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Hendrika Kennedy at the age of 100 at Calvary Place Personal Care Home.
A graveside service will take place on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Cemetery.

I am Deborah Kroeker (nee Vanderhorst) Hendrika was my mother, married to my father Ferry (Fred) Vanderhorst for 35 years until he passed from cancer. My parents immigranted from The Netherlands to Canada with my 2 sisters Ilonka and Marilyn in 1960. I was born in 1961 as a first generation Canadian. I remember as a child curling up with my mother and singing Dutch nursery rhymes. Especially Poesje Mauw which was a favourite. She made the best Dutch food, especially croquettes (which I have tried to make but can not replicate) they were delicious. Having learned of her passing 9 days after she was laid to rest and not given the opportunity to say goodbye is heartbreaking and not something I am likely to forget or forgive anytime soon. However, it does my heart good to know she is once again with my Dad, her parents, his parents and undoubtedly her favourite cousin. Partying in heaven at their reunion with good Dutch food and music. Always remembered by me and her grandchildren Jeremy, Robin and Teagan.
