James Reid, affectionately known as "Papa", passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 87.
James will be lovingly remembered by his granddaughters, Rochelle Dyrkacz (Dion) and Nicole LaBossiere (Brendan); his grandson, Dylan Fourre; his sister, Cecelia Fraser; and his four great-grandchildren, Evasia, Orianne, Aurelio, and Ezra.
He was predeceased by his longtime partner, Eva Paupanekis; his daughter, Miranda Paupanekis; his grandson, Harlan Fourre; his parents, Robert and Bridget Reid; and his brothers and sisters.
Papa was a gentle and honourable man with a quiet strength and a kind heart. He will be remembered for the lessons he taught, the kindness he showed, and the love he gave to his family.
A small service in James’ honour will be held at Mosaic Funeral Home on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. In keeping with James’ wishes, he will be cremated.

It was an honor to have gotten to know James. In our conversations he often spoke of how much he loved his family and how blessed he was to have them. He was an amazing person who touched many others with his kindness and gentle ways. Thank you for the privilege of joining your family; we will be sure to continue to love and carry each other through the good and bad times, just like you showed us Papa through your quiet actions.
