DONALD EMIL GRUHN

November 12, 1937 - August 26, 2026

With great sadness we say goodbye to our beloved Dad and Grandpa, Don, a kind, caring, charismatic, fun-loving, wonderful man who loved his family more than anything and never missed an opportunity for a joke, a game of crib, or a chance to spend time with the people he loved.

Don was predeceased by his wife Sharon and son Bert. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Derek and Lori Gruhn; and grandchildren, Kaelin, Ryleigh and Brooke. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers, Joyce, Barb (Bob), Norm (Lorna) and Ernie (Dianne), by sisters-in-law, Gail and family, Jan (Dennis) and family and many extended family and friends.

Our family would like to sincerely thank the staff at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for the exceptional care, kindness, and compassion they showed Don and our family.

In Accordance with Don’s wishes, a private family burial has taken place. A photo biography honouring Don’s life is accessible through the 'tributes' link below.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • We had the pleasure of meeting Don and Sharon when we moved into the Link. They lived just down the hall from us and it wasn't unusual to step into the hallway and find Don somewhere. He always had something to say and made us laugh. We have been missing seeing him around the building. Our sincere condolences on the loss of your father. - Posted by: Lynne and Ron Fotti (Neighbor) on: Sep 05, 2026

  • We were moving into our apartment at The Link and an elderly gentleman approached us and asked if we were moving in. Next question was do we play cribbage? And so it began. Daily crib games and rooftop putting. Don was known to everyone in the building. He volunteered for all our special events. We still talk about some of most interesting and comical things that he did. Rest in Peace Don. - Posted by: Dave and Michelle MacRae (Friend) on: Sep 05, 2026
