ROBERT WAYNE PATRICK
The Patrick family are saddened to announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Patrick, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, on February 21, 2026.
Bob was predeceased by his father Cluny, mother Stella, his loving wife Marion, brothers David and Chuck, sister Sandra, and daughter Rebecca (Ted Saunders). He is survived by his brother Ian (Joan), daughters Heather (Roger Burns) and Adrienne (Warren Rumple), his son Bobbie, 14 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren (and counting).
Bob was born on January 28, 1936, in St. John's, Newfoundland. In 1948 the family emigrated to Canada settling in Winnipeg. He attended Lord Roberts and Gordon Bell schools and later the University of Manitoba before beginning his air force career.
Dad loved his chosen profession as an air force pilot, dedicating close to 49 years to the service of his country. Much of his career was in air defence (NATO, NORAD), but his passion was flying and teaching. He was dedicated to service, both in his career and within the community. He served many years as President of the 402 Squadron Association and was an active member of the 500 Wing RCAF Association and the Canadian Legion, and in retirement, a dedicated volunteer at the Royal Aviation Museum.
Dad loved traveling, whether that meant packing up the entire family for an adventure or Dad and Mom jetting off somewhere on their own. In his personal time, he found joy in painting, sculpting, wood-carving, and gardening. Above all, he loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His love and care of Bob Jr., whose happiness was a central focus of his life, was unconditional.
While in true "Bob Patrick fashion" our dad composed most of this obituary himself, we would be remiss without adding a few words about how remarkable our dad truly was. He not only lived life with youthful exuberance but also had a marvelous sense of humour and a refreshing curiosity about the world and others. He was endearingly stubborn, a voracious reader, an adventurer, an engaging conversationalist about anything and everything under the sun, and a true and loyal friend. He was a father and husband extraordinaire and a man who lived his life with the utmost integrity. We miss him dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held at The Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at 3:30 p.m. (Please feel free to arrive at 3:00 p.m. to tour the museum.)
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory can be made to Connect Employment Services.

I was so sorry to hear that Col. Patrick passed away. He was such an outgoing and friendly person! He was never distant. He was always approachable and enthusiastic about finding better ways of doing things, no matter who you were. Doing the right thing, the right way, for everyone, as much as was possible was always his first concern, and his primary goal. His memory for faces and names was astonishing! Many years after he left 402, he would still recognize me and my wife Christina, when we'd meet occasionally at the grocery store, and he would happily talk to us like old friends! His knowledge about history and other subjects, outside of military and aviation, was amazing! He was a wonderful and friendly person. Our sincere condolences go out to the family from my wife Christina and I. - Posted by: Kerry Boswell (Served under him in 402 Squadron when he was Squadron Commander.) on: Sep 24, 2026
