LUIGI IEZZI

February 29, 1944 - August 31, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Luigi Iezzi on August 31, 2026, at the age of 82.

Luigi leaves behind Ada, his beloved wife of 56 years; their sons, Angelo (Pam), Adriano (Michele), and Mike (Tito) and his cherished granddaughters, Madison, Kiara, Maiya, Dominique and Chloe.

Born in Appignano, Italy, to the late Stefano and Antonietta Iezzi, he was the youngest of seven children. A big family that have always stayed close to his heart.

Luigi came to Canada with Ada in 1970 to build a new life for their family. They first settled in Thompson, Manitoba, where he worked in the mines before moving to Winnipeg. Luigi later began a long career with Canadian Pacific Railway, retiring at age 60.

Luigi was hardworking, determined and always ready with an opinion or a story. He showed his love through working, building, fixing and providing for his family. He loved tending his garden and growing tomatoes and he proudly carried on the family traditions of making sausage and wine every fall. Though stern with his sons, becoming a Nonno revealed his softer side. His five granddaughters were his pride and joy and could get away with far more than his sons ever did.

Family was always at the center of Luigi’s life. The life he and Ada built together and the family that grew from it, was his greatest accomplishment.

Luigi’s funeral will be held Friday, September 11, 2026, at Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, Manitoba. Viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. and a reception.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Luigi’s memory.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Cara Comara Silvana (Ada) , Angelo, Andriano, Mike and families, Please accept our most sincere condolences on the passing of your husband, father, father-in-law and Nonno. Compare Luigi was a hard worker and everything he accomplished was for his family. Compare loved his garden. When my mother and I would go visit – Compare and Comara couldn’t wait to show us their garden. They were so generous in sharing their produce. Compare was not a man of many words but his generosity was always very much appreciated. Reposa in pace, Compare Luigi. • We are so sorry for your loss. We will always keep Luigi in our memories. He was such a great neighbor—always laughing, joking, and ready to help or offer advice whenever it was needed. When I first moved into the area, I remember Luigi showing off on his Vespa, and I was so jealous that I told him one day I’d buy it off him. We will truly miss you, Luigi. - Posted by: Richard & Iwona Wroblewski (Neighbours) on: Sep 05, 2026
