ALBERT ARCHIE VERMEYLEN

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Albert Archie Vermeylen, on September 6, 2026 at the age of 85.

Dad was born on July 2, 1941 in San Clara, Manitoba to loving parents, Albert Senior and Claire (Bedu) Vermeylen.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Eileen (McGinnis) Vermeylen and his children, Bonnie Rayner (Robert), Robert (Andrea), and Michael, and his five dearest granddaughters, Alexi (Dale), Payton (Quin), Brooke (Hayden), Sophie and Abigail. He is also survived by his sister Huguette and brother Daniel (Melanie) and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his son-in-law Michael Slobodian and his sister Jeanne.

Albert was a proud elementary school teacher for over 40 years, retiring from Winnipeg School Division in 2004.

The Mass of Resurrection will take place Friday, September 11, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Joseph the Worker Church, 505 Brewster Street located in Transcona and he will be laid to rest at Transcona Cemetery.

If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane, I would walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • He was my French teacher for three years when I attended Victoria Albert from grade 4 to 6. He was also my favorite teacher that I adored so much. He had given me the cute nick name of Little French Girl. I am so torn to findout that he has passed away. He was also my school patrol supervisor, I will always have special memories of my elementary school years because of him. He was the best at what he did. The world has lost one beautiful soul of a very dedicated teacher and a wonderful man. My prayers and love to his family. - Posted by: Rachelle Lussier (He was my elementary school French Teacher.) on: Oct 04, 2026

  • Dear Eileen and family. I offer my sympathy to you all at this time of loss. I had the privilege of sharing my Grade Four students with Albert for many years at Greenway. He was an amazing French teacher, as well as a wonderful school patrol co- ordinator for our school. The children respected and admired him. He had a gentle, loving and patient manner in all his classes. Albert was a real gentleman, and I feel honoured to have worked with him. I was not able to attend the service, but send you my condolences and prayers. Eileen Funk - Posted by: Eileen Funk (Teacher colleague at Greenway School) on: Sep 12, 2026

  • I remember all the Sundays after church that we spent at Grandma & Grandpa Bedu’s. Bert was always such a kind gentle person. He will be remembered as the kind and caring person that he was. - Posted by: Barbara Kilborne (Cousin) on: Sep 09, 2026
