Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANDY (ANDREW) JOHN MCGRATH
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dad, Andy McGrath, aged 83 years, on Thursday, September 3rd. Andy will be deeply missed by his four children, Tina (Glenn), Andrew (Jennifer), Lisa (Joe) and Ruth (Roberto). He adored his 11 grandchildren, Jason (Josh), Tayler, Deklin, Shayden, Brad, Graeme, Brooklynn, Joey, Justin, Conor and Liam. His great-grandchildren, Josh, Isaiah, Serenity and Ciara. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and extended family, in both Canada and Ireland.
Andy was predeceased by his wife Ann, both parents, his five brothers, Robbie, Paddy, Davey, Tommy, John, and three sisters, Maureen, Madge and Josie. Andy is survived by his one sister Elsie Coffey. He will be missed by his brother-in-law Paul (Catie), very special friends dear to his heart, Betty and Jim Mooney, and Robert Woods.
Andy was born and raised in Dublin Ireland, to parents Robert and Margaret McGrath. He was the youngest of ten children. Andy met the love of his life Ann while in school, they were married on June 10, 1964. Andy was a butcher by trade, a family tradition that started with his father. Andy immigrated to Winnipeg in 1971 with his wife Ann and three children, to make a better life for their family. They had their fourth child in Canada. He was a family man, with family being the most important to him.
Andy and Ann quickly became involved and were members of both The Irish Association of Manitoba, and The Royal Canadian Legion #9 Elmwood Branch. Where they went to socialize and made their circle of friends.
Andy had a love for soccer and played on the Irish Association of Manitoba's club team in his younger days. He also had a true passion for music, whether it was playing his accordion, belting out one of his favorite Irish songs, or playing his guitar, anyone knew by looking at him, he truly was in his "happy place".
Andy was a proud member of The Irish Stew Band and performed with them for several years. He later played with The Celtic Way, remaining an active musician until his retirement from the music scene. Andy was also a lifelong member at the Elmwood Legion Branch #9. Andy served as Legion President for a one-year term, he was proud to wear his Legion Uniform. Over the years he was an active member in playing darts, bowling, and supporting fundraisers such as the meat draws. We are proud to know our dad introduced both Robby Burns and St Patrick's night to the Legion. He knew how to get a crowd going and put on a good time!
The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the kind and loving staff at Concordia Place, Memory Care Unit. The respect and dignity provided over the past year to our dad, will never be forgotten.
A Church Service will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026 at 1:00 pm at St. Alphonsus Church, 315 Munroe Avenue, Winnipeg.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Elmwood Legion Branch #9.

Andy and Ann’s Daughter Tina is married to our son Glenn. Even since the kids were dating Andy and Ann embraced us into their hearts and introduced us to their friends and family, always treating us as a part of their family. There are not enough superlatives to tell how much we thought of them, I regret not being able to attend Andy’s service but as a Coincidence we were in Ireland earlier this week and They were in our thoughts constantly with everything we saw and did and we Absolutely raised a glass of Irish Whiskey in their honor. - Posted by: Paul Land (Related by Marriage) on: Sep 16, 2026

Uncle Andy (to me) I haven't seen since I was a child in the 60's or 70's. (I'm son of Madge Ryan (née McGrath). I still have a black and white photo of Uncle Andy & Auntie Ann when they took me to the Zoo aged about 5 in London. Happy memories. Love and best wishes to all the family in Canada or wherever in the world you maybe. God bless. - Posted by: Ed Ryan (Nephew) on: Sep 16, 2026
