JACK SHROM

With deep sadness we announce the passing of Jack Shrom on September 8, 2026.

Jack will be lovingly remembered by his wife Donna Ekerholm; sister Faye Brownstone (Bill); and an extended group of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and their families, to whom he was a beloved uncle. He embraced Donna’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren unconditionally. Jack was predeceased by his brother Saul (Helen May); and sister May Birnboim.

Jack was born March 2, 1931, in Winnipeg to Rose and Louis. Through hard work and inventiveness, he put himself through university, the only one of his siblings to do so. He spent his successful career working for the City of Winnipeg.

Jack was an avid sports fan, stamp and coin collector. His warmth led him to make friends and develop relationships wherever he went. But most of all, he was a devoted spouse, sibling and uncle. He was a constant presence in the lives of his family, always with a smile and a (bad) joke. He remembered and acknowledged every birthday, anniversary and special event of those who mattered to him.

Jack was guided by his deep faith. He was an unassuming man – quietly generous, never wanting the spotlight for any of his many good deeds. A fitting tribute to Jack’s memory would be a donation to the charity of your choice and a kind deed.

Funeral services were held on September 10, 2026. Pallbearers were David Shrom, Max Lerner, Aliza Lerner, Gary Brownstone, Steve Olsen and Richard Kahan. One night of shiva was held. Because of the High Holidays, there will be no further shiva.
