Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCLYDE ROSS MCBAIN
It is with great sadness that, after a long and fulfilling life, we announce the peaceful passing of Clyde Ross McBain, in the home he lovingly built for his family in 1968.
He is survived by his two children, Heather Frame (Grant), Rob (Tammy); grandsons, Graham McBain (Leah), Iain Frame (Amber, Hailey, Mya, Eoghan), Donnie Frame (Kolby), Scott Frame (Olivia, Brodie, Bronwyn) Patrick Frame (Chelsea, Sadie) and son-in-law Don Frame.
He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Victoria and his granddaughter Kendra McBain.
Clyde was born on November 8, 1929, just two weeks after the stock market crash, and grew up as an only child during the Great Depression in Norwood on Monck Avenue. Life was hard as he lost his dad when he was only 12 and was raised by his mother. Dad graduated from Norwood Collegiate and went on to the University of Manitoba, graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering with a minor in bridge playing (possibly contributing to his taking eight years to finish his degree). He began his career as a Field Engineer and then sold sewer and water pipe. It was on a sales trip to Kamsack, SK, where he met a farmer on a duck hunt who had a very attractive daughter, Vicki, and romance and marriage soon followed.
Together, they had two children and shared many interests and wonderful experiences throughout their life together. They held season tickets to the Manitoba Theatre Centre (MTC) for more than 50 years, were devoted Blue Bombers fans, and held season tickets to both iterations of the Winnipeg Jets, attending games regularly until the last few years.
Dad enjoyed curling and participated in many bonspiels over the years, but fishing and hunting were his favourite pastimes. He became a Master Angler for both walleye and pike and relished fishing for salmon and halibut along the coast of British Columbia.
A special time for Dad were the father/son and eventually son-in-law hunting trips. Starting at the “Shack” on the Delta Marsh and encompassing marshes all over the province Dad was a dedicated duck hunter and supporter of Ducks Unlimited. Travel was also a highlight for Dad and Mom (if someone else did the organizing) and they visited Italy, Russia, and South America with a special trip to New Zealand in 2016 with Heather, Rob and Tammy.
But his happy place was the cottage on Zigzag Island on LOTW. Mom and Dad bought the original 640 square foot cottage in 1972 and spent every weekend and most of July and August in residence. Soon the grandkids started to arrive, in fact six in five years, so Dad built a new six bedroom family cottage so everyone could be together. He always joked that his kids “screwed” him out of his first place.
Dad was an entrepreneur. He founded Ancast Industries Ltd. In 1974 growing it through the years and was Chairman until his death. His son Rob joined the business in 1989, and they had a long and prosperous business relationship. Dad volunteered on numerous boards including Manitoba Hydro and was president of the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, the Canadian Foundry Association and the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists.
The Family would like to thank Execucare and the team of health care workers especially Lincoln, Paul and Emil who allowed him to stay safe in his home until his passing.
For those who wish, donations in Clyde’s memory to Ducks Unlimited or Kendra’s Walk at CancerCare MB would be gratefully accepted in lieu of flowers.

In 2001 while working as a fishing guide I had the pleasure of guiding the McBain & (Frame) family. We became friends and each fall for the next dozen years or more spent 3-4 days together hunting ducks & geese (me the guide the McBain's & Frames the hunters). We shared many laughs, creating wonderful memories & sad times too. First the loss of his granddaughter (Kendra) and then us with the loss of our youngest son Steven (both to cancer). Sharon & I watched his grandsons grow up and were so impressed with this wonderful family. Clyde was a sportsman but very much a gentleman too. Sharon & I valued our friendship & will always have fond memories of Clyde & Vicki. Our love & condolences to Clydes family. He was a good one! - Posted by: Jerry Maryniuk (friend from Hunting & fishing.) on: Sep 12, 2026
