John Russell Prociuk, aged 84, of Winnipeg, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2026.
Beloved husband of his dearly departed MaryAnn, cherished father of Darryl (Lynne), Michele (Graeme) and Janine (Lei), and a proud and devoted grandfather to Sam, Matt, Liam, Aiden, Roman and Anna.
John is survived by his brothers, Peter (Sonya), Dennis, and Ed (Nancy); his sister Donna; sisters-in-law, Pat and Jean (Randy); and many nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his parents, Matt and Nellie Prociuk; MaryAnn, his wife of 48 years, who passed away in 2015; brothers, Paul and Morris; brothers-in-law, Boris Seredycz and John Pawlychyn; and sister-in-law Shirley.
John was born July 11, 1942, in Vita and was raised on the family farm in Lonesand, Manitoba, where he developed a lifelong strong work ethic that served him well throughout his life. John attended elementary school in Lonesand, high school at Steinbach Collegiate, and took various courses through the University of Manitoba and Red River College. John remained committed to ongoing learning throughout his life.
John first met the love of his life, MaryAnn, at a barn dance, and they were married in Stuartburn in 1967. Together they welcomed three children in 1969 (Darryl) and again in 1980 (Michele) and 1982 (Janine). A dedicated father, he took immense pride in raising his children to be compassionate, hard-working, and resilient individuals.
John had deep and unwavering faith and was a dedicated longtime member of Holy Eucharist Catholic Parish, where he served for many years, including as a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood, and the parish council. He also served as a Eucharistic minister.
John was known for his wisdom and kindheartedness, and he dedicated his time and energy to his family whenever they needed his help. He especially loved visiting with family and friends he made over the years, including those from Co-operative Trust and Devonshire House.
John worked in a variety of jobs, including as a teacher in Sandilands and Lac du Bonnet, as well as at Welders Supplies and Co-operative Trust Company of Canada. During his distinguished 25 plus year career with Co-operative Trust, he took great pride in his work as a mortgage manager. His commitment to professional development, dedication to his clients, and friendships with his fellow employees made him an important part of the company.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and healthcare aides at the Health Sciences Center (Adult Emergency Department, GA and GB units). A funeral service will be held on September 15, 2026, at 10:00 am at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Parish.
Arrangements entrusted to Cropo Funeral Home. Internment at Green Acres Cemetery will take place at a future date.

My Deepest Sympathy to John’s families. Sorry I was out of town at the time of the funeral. I always enjoyed running into John when he lived at the Assisted Living by my place. Always had great things to talk about. Rest In Peace John. - Posted by: Deanna Pringle (Acquaintance) on: Sep 19, 2026

Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your father, grandfather. He was a wonderful man and I enjoyed working with him at the parish on many occasions. He will be missed . We use to get together and go singing Christmas carols together to parishioners houses. - Posted by: Shirley Skochylas (member of Holy Eucharist) on: Sep 12, 2026

Our condolences to John's extended Prociuk family. Living in The Pas, I rarely got to see John, but during a visit to the Prociuk farm, John said that he was going to be a Permit Teacher in Sandilands. When I finished high school in Winnipeg, John suggested that if I liked teaching, I could try Permit Teaching for a year & I took John's suggestion , teaching in a one-room school in Shortdale...What a year ! In recent years, being in Ontario, we rarely got to see each other , except for family weddings or funerals, but John & MaryAnn's door was always open to us. We will miss him but we are blessed for having had him in our lives. God Bless...John & Claudette Smith - Posted by: John B. Smith (First Cousin) on: Sep 12, 2026
