MONIQUE DECARIE
It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved sister and auntie, Monique Nicole Decarie on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at the age of 79.
Born in Montreal on December 28, 1946, she was the daughter of Marcel and Yvette (nee Gervais) Decarie. She lived in Montreal, Welland and Toronto before settling in Winnipeg with her parents and family in 1968. She later worked for Legal Aid, where she spent many years contributing her time and talents.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Louise (Marc) Hornbeck; brother Richard (Lynda) Decarie; niece Dana (Darren) Sachvie; nephew Kevin (Jo Ann) Decarie; numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and a great-great-niece who will all cherish their memories of her.
She was predeceased by her parents, Marcel and Yvette (nee Gervais) Decarie and her brother-in-law, Marc Hornbeck.
She was a woman who was always ready with a smile and a laugh. She loved her coffee, chocolate and most of all, the people and animals in her life. She had a particular talent for getting names hilariously wrong - especially when she knew you well. It was not unusual to be called two or three different names before she finally landed on the right one, which would inevitably be followed by laughter. In fact, if she got your name right on the first try, you knew you were probably in trouble!
Her love of animals was just as memorable. She could never turn away a creature in need and happily shared what she had with the birds, bunnies, squirrels and stray cats that found their way to her. She had a generous heart and a soft spot for every animal that crossed her path.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Angie for being such a kind and caring neighbour and friend, and to the Card Ladies for the friendship, laughter and companionship they shared with her.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no formal service. Instead, her family will gather privately to celebrate her life, share memories and remember all the laughter she brought to those who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society in her memory.

My condolences to her friends and family. I worked with her at L.A.M. and I rememer it always took her several tries to get my name right! I would tease her that she should remember since I had the same name as her sister. Lol, such a sweet soul. I'm honored to have known her and worked with her. - Posted by: Louise (Co-worker at Legal Aid Mb) on: Sep 14, 2026

Monique was a delightful neighbour with whom I always enjoyed discussions whether at our community mailbox or at our homes. I just saw her not more than a few weeks ago and she seemed in the peak of good health. This comes as a complete shock to me and I shall miss her presence in our neighbourhood. Rest in peace dear heart and God Bless. - Posted by: Leonard Offrowich (Neighbour) on: Sep 12, 2026

It has been a privilege knowing Monique. She enjoyed playing cards and had a delightful sense of humor. She will be sadly missed. Sincerely Paul & Jackie Blonski - Posted by: Jackie & Paul Blonski (Friends at Cards) on: Sep 12, 2026
