LES JOHN BRENT
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Les Brent on August 31, 2026.
Les leaves behind his beloved wife, June, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage; his children, Jason Brent and Wendy Matousek (Mark); his grandson, Reese Matousek; and his step-grandchildren, Colten, Rory, and Everett Matousek.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Mildred Brent, and his sisters, Delores and Audrey Brent.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Les graduated from Elmwood High School, where June also attended. Les and June first met 64 years ago while working at Safeway, beginning a lifelong partnership that would span more than six decades.
Les studied Business Administration at Red River College and later earned his Certified General Accountant designation (CPA, CGA). He began his accounting career with Revenue Canada before leaving to establish the accounting practice Hermiston Brent and Co. Over the years, he was also an owner and partner in numerous businesses in Manitoba and British Columbia, including Ambassador Mechanical.
Alongside his passion for accounting and finance, Les inspired and mentored his daughter Wendy to follow in his CGA footsteps and become an accountant.
Outside of his professional life, Les had a deep passion for music, books, and history. He cherished the years he spent living on Salt Spring Island, BC, and especially enjoyed his time on the water with his boats. He loved travelling to warm destinations with June, particularly Barbados, Puerto Vallarta and Australia.
Les was also predeceased by his best friend, Ron Mann (Janice), in July of this year.
Les will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.
His funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Dr., Winnipeg
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada.

So sorry Kelly and family for your loss. Kelly was telling us the story of how she spent much of her years in sports being chaparoned by Les and June. How she would go on 'dates' with them. May peace be with you all at this difficult time. Elaine Feniuk - Posted by: Elaine Feniuk (Friend of Kelly) on: Sep 26, 2026
