SYLVIA MARY MOTTOLA

August 10, 1943 - September 1, 2026

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sylvia Mary Mottola (née McRae) on September 1, 2026, at the age of 83.

Born on August 10, 1943, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Sylvia lived a life defined by her devotion to family and friends and by her instinctive care for those around her. She is survived by her children, John (Andrea), Bobby, and Jeffrey (Christa), and her beloved grandchildren, Charlie, August, Luca, and Abella. Her legacy of love will also be carried forward by her nieces, nephews, cousins, aunt, sisters-in-law, and lifelong friends.

Sylvia married Don in 1969, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Their children and grandchildren were their pride and joy, and their love for them was boundless.

Sylvia had a genuine curiosity about the world and the people in it. Her radiant personality and easy smile made her approachable to everyone, sparking countless unexpected conversations and wonderful new friendships wherever she went. She held those friendships dear.

A true creator of magic, Sylvia poured her heart into family gatherings, famously beginning her Christmas preparations six weeks in advance. She created a lifetime of wonder that our family will remember forever. The holidays will never be the same without her.

Sylvia was defined by her deep commitment to family and friends. She put others before herself and carefully nurtured the bonds she cherished. An endless source of love and support, Sylvia, Sue, Mom, Grandma, and Auntie Sue will be dearly missed.

The family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to the first responders and healthcare professionals who cared for Sylvia with such compassion.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honour Sylvia’s memory with a donation to a cause close to your heart.

A Celebration of Life in honour of Sylvia will be held at Pizzeria Gusto, 404 Academy Rd., Winnipeg, on Monday, October 5, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
