Myron passed away peacefully at Fairview Home on Monday, September 14, 2026 at the age of 99 years.
Myron was born in Rosthern, Saskatchewan on July 14, 1927 to Parania and Dmytro Blocka. Myron attended public school at Milnor School in the rural Municipality of Rosthern, SK. He attended high school at Valdimir College Redemptorist Fathers College in Roblin, Manitoba and Prince Albert College in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
In 1947, he went on to Brandon, Manitoba to take Psychiatric Nursing at the Brandon Mental Health Centre. After graduation and receiving his diploma, he was employed at the Mental Health Centre in which he worked for 39 years - first as a nurse, later taking on the job as Director of Laundry and Linen Services.
During his employment at the Mental Hospital, he met his wife Elsie Smith who also worked there. They were married and had two sons, Allen and Wayne. Myron enjoyed numerous sports - fishing, curling, soccer (soccer team known as the Brandon Mentals). Myron also enjoyed vacations with his wife and the two boys at the cottage in Clear Lake and took numerous trips to Victoria, BC.
Myron was active in the Government Employees Association Brandon Unit #1 in which he held office as President for several years. Myron was an active member of St. Augustine’s Church.
Myron was predeceased by his wife Elsie May Grace (Smith) of 64 ½ years; sons, Wayne and Allen; parents, Dmytro and Parania Blocka of Rosthern, Saskatchewan; sister Mary Sereda (brother-in-law Mike Sereda), sister Ann (brother-in-law Steve Michaelchuk), brother John (sister-in-law Olga) of Prince Albert, SK, brother Steve (sister-in-law Mary), brother Nicholas (sister-in-law Regena), brother Michael Blocka of Saskatoon, SK, and brother Ernie Harden of Maple Creek, SK.
Myron is survived by sister Julia of Maple Creek, SK and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A Graveside Service will be held at the Brandon Cemetery on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. with Fr. John Okosun officiating. Donations in memory of Myron may be made to a charity of choice.
