CAROL LYNNE BAIRD
After a long, courageous and determined battle with cancer, Mom passed September 8, 2026 on her own terms "she did it her way," with her loving family by her side. She faced her health challenges with grit, resilience, humour and purpose, refusing to let illness define her spirit.
Mom grew up in the River Heights area attending St. Mary's Academy and completed her high school education at Kelvin High School. It was here that she met, nurtured and carried on with lifelong friendships. She then completed a Secretarial course at a Winnipeg Business College. Mom's life was full, from day one, with boys, shopping, dancing and having a good time!
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Karl and Sylvia Slocomb, half-sisters, Bette (Bun) Donegani and Jean (Alan) Boulton. She is survived by her beloved children, Brian (Lori), Shannon (Linda) and Doug (Marcie), her sister Cathi (Ken) Auld, aunt Joan Keefe and grandsons, Jordi (Caitie), Tristan (Megan), Troy and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
As a single parent, raising three children, Mom worked in various full time Executive Assistant positions including St. Boniface Hospital, Pitblado and Hoskins, Western Canada Lottery Corporation and retired from the Easy Street program at the Misercoria Health Center ... at the tender age of 70!
Mom loved to travel and did so in style and grace. She was able to dance and shop in places such as Rome, London, Brussels, Brazil, Hawaii, Jamaica, Mexico, throughout Canada and other parts of the US.
The family would like to thank all those who visited or kept in touch with Mom, especially over the past few months. A special thank you to the Palliative Care Team who were so compassionate in their many visits and whose dedication to her care, allowed Mom to spend her last days at home in relative comfort. In addition, a special thank you to all her doctors and her dentist who cared for her throughout her lifetime and during her illness. A special thank you to the wonderful MAiD team who helped Mom "do it her way"!
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to CancerCare Manitoba, Never Alone Foundation or to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation in honour of Carol Baird.
Cremation has taken place and a Private Celebration of Life will follow at a later date.

My deepest condolences to Shannon, Brian and Doug. As a childhood friend, I always admired your mom - she was raising three kids, on her own, but she always had a smile on her face and so much energy. I loved that she put in her own in-ground pool (before it was a thing) just to soak up the sun! She was a tiny, beautiful, independent, woman. Only after becoming an adult, did I truly appreciate what she had accomplished. Sounds like she was a spitfire right to the end. You were blessed to have her as your mom. It was an absolute pleasure to have had Carol as a friend for 67 years. This because Carol and my mother (Pat Thullner) remained best of friends since they were about 11years old. For the last number of years Carol and my parents lived in the same apartment complex in Winnipeg. In true Carol fashion and despite her health struggles, Carol was a huge help to my parents who were also struggling with many health issues. Always in a great mood and with a smile on her face Carol would wardrobe shop for my mother who could no longer walk. In addition Carol would regularly whip up one of her delicious meals complete with tasty desert and deliver it to my parents. I could go on and on about what a lovely person Carol was...but there's not enough room here. Deepest condolences to Shannon, Brian and Doug. Your mom was awesome. Dear Brian, Shannon and Doug, Damon shared this obituary with me. We reminisced about you mother and those days on Marshall Bay. I remember her as being beautiful, so cool, and happy. Thinking back about her with adult eyes, hats off to the job she did as a single mother. And the interesting life she went on to live. What a spirit. Even though I am miles away from Winnipeg. Carol and I chatted every few days over the years but especially the past months. Carol was like my little sister when I was growing up because Mom and I lived with my sister Sylvia and Karl. I was often told to "please take Carol", so she wasn't always one of my favorites! As we got older and married with children, we became closer. I miss these phone calls so much - we laughed, cried and comforted each other over various ailments so they were therapy for both of us.
