CAROL LYNNE BAIRD
After a long, courageous and determined battle with cancer, Mom passed September 8, 2026 on her own terms "she did it her way," with her loving family by her side. She faced her health challenges with grit, resilience, humour and purpose, refusing to let illness define her spirit.
Mom grew up in the River Heights area attending St. Mary's Academy and completed her high school education at Kelvin High School. It was here that she met, nurtured and carried on with lifelong friendships. She then completed a Secretarial course at a Winnipeg Business College. Mom's life was full, from day one, with boys, shopping, dancing and having a good time!
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Karl and Sylvia Slocomb, half-sisters, Bette (Bun) Donegani and Jean (Alan) Boulton. She is survived by her beloved children, Brian (Lori), Shannon (Linda) and Doug (Marcie), her sister Cathi (Ken) Auld, aunt Joan Keefe and grandsons, Jordi (Caitie), Tristan (Megan), Troy and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
As a single parent, raising three children, Mom worked in various full time Executive Assistant positions including St. Boniface Hospital, Pitblado and Hoskins, Western Canada Lottery Corporation and retired from the Easy Street program at the Misercoria Health Center ... at the tender age of 70!
Mom loved to travel and did so in style and grace. She was able to dance and shop in places such as Rome, London, Brussels, Brazil, Hawaii, Jamaica, Mexico, throughout Canada and other parts of the US.
The family would like to thank all those who visited or kept in touch with Mom, especially over the past few months. A special thank you to the Palliative Care Team who were so compassionate in their many visits and whose dedication to her care, allowed Mom to spend her last days at home in relative comfort. In addition, a special thank you to all her doctors and her dentist who cared for her throughout her lifetime and during her illness. A special thank you to the wonderful MAiD team who helped Mom "do it her way"!
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to CancerCare Manitoba, Never Alone Foundation or to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation in honour of Carol Baird.
Cremation has taken place and a Private Celebration of Life will follow at a later date.
