George passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital with family at his side at the age of 88.
George grew up in Ste. Elizabeth, Manitoba, later settling in Springfield, where he and his wife Dell built a home and raised their three children. He worked for the provincial government for 38 years, retiring in 1995. George was known for his love of gardening, stained glass art, astronomy, building anything that sparked his interest and hosting family gatherings.
He is predeceased by his parents, Gerhard and Agnes; brothers Henry, John, and Leonard; and sister Ruth. He is survived by his wife Dell of 56 years; children, Jeffrey (Rhonda), Michelle (Dave), and Marc; and grandchildren, Dalton, Alexis and Ryan; sister Margaret, brother-in-law Peter, sisters-in-law, Margaret and Ericka, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach, Manitoba, on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with a lunch reception to follow. A private family interment will take place afterward in Ste. Elizabeth, Manitoba.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Bergen Gardens Assisted Living, St. Boniface Hospital Unit 6AW Cardiology, and Dr. Tam for their care and support.
