It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Richard John William Zilke, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, on September 6, 2026, at the age of 71.
He will be lovingly remembered by his three daughters, Angela, Laura (Thano), and Robyn Alex (Jason); his grandchildren, Adrian and Ella; his two sisters, Vicki (Keith) and Barbara (Jim); many nieces and nephews; as well as his lifelong friends, including Greg, Rod, Ron, and Jim, just to name a few.
Richard grew up in a military family and lived in many places during his younger years, eventually settling in Charleswood. He met Barbara, his wife of 40 years, in 1981, and together they had three beautiful daughters.
Richard was a hardworking and independent man with a strong entrepreneurial spirit. He began his career working for Pacific Western and Waso Greenhouse before choosing to become his own boss. He first opened a hydroponic greenhouse growing lettuce in Cooks Creek, and the business eventually grew into Cooks Choice Greenhouse, which he owned and operated for more than 30 years.
Though he is no longer with us, his memory will live on in the photographs he took, the music he loved, the paths in nature he explored, and most importantly, in the hearts of his daughters, family, and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honour, with details to be announced at a later date.
