It is with profound sadness, and immense gratitude for a life so well lived, that we remember and celebrate our beloved mother, Elsie Wade, who passed away peacefully on August 23, 2026, at the age of 93.
Those who knew Mom would immediately remember her incredible energy, adventurous spirit, and unwavering devotion to her family. She approached life with kindness and a determination that inspired everyone around her.
She was born on December 25, 1932. Mom grew up in Zhoda, Manitoba with eight siblings. She moved to Winnipeg to attend high school. She began working after high school in Winnipeg.
Together with her loving husband Tom, whom she shared over 60 years of marriage until his passing in 2023, Mom embraced every season of life to the fullest.
Mom and Dad purchased their family home in Winnipeg shortly after getting married. It became the heart of our family, holiday celebrations, and countless memories. Mom remained in that home and cherished her life there until her passing.
Family was always at the center of Mom's world. She lovingly raised her three children, Laura-Lee, Sherri, and Lance, and devoted herself completely to their happiness and success. Whether it was driving to track meets, volleyball and basketball tournaments, dance lessons, or figure skating practices, she was always there. Her children were, without question, her greatest priority.
Mom's love was often expressed through food. She was a great cook who carried on treasured Ukrainian family traditions through her homemade perogies and cabbage rolls. Every evening she ensured her family gathered around a warm, home-cooked meal. Her baking was legendary, especially at Christmas when her famous shortbread cookies became a cherished family tradition.
Many of our most treasured memories were made at Falcon Lake, where Mom spent summers with her children at the cabin, and dad came up after work Fridays until Monday morning came around. Sunny days on the dock and boating, rainy afternoons spent playing cards on the veranda, while warm evenings brought walks through the townsite. And no matter how late the hour, if a mosquito found its way into a child's bedroom, Mom could somehow be counted on to appear and solve the problem. It was a small act that perfectly captured who she was: always a caring and loving mother.
Her love only grew as the family expanded. She adored her grandchildren, Connor, Ryan, Addison, Savannah and Parker, and took great joy in being part of their lives.
As her children grew up, built families of their own, and moved away, Mom remained active and engaged in her community. She volunteered at her local senior center, enjoyed weekly rounds of golf with friends, participated in water aerobics, and even took up yoga. She believed in staying active, staying connected, and making the most of each day.
Mom lived a remarkable life defined by love, generosity, resilience, and service to others. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a proud grandmother, a loyal friend, and a dedicated volunteer. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, kindness, strength, and countless cherished memories.
While our hearts are broken by her loss, we are comforted by the love she gave so freely. Her spirit lives on in the stories we share, and the family she loved so deeply.
Rest in peace, Mom. We love you, we miss you, and we will carry you with us always.
