JOYCE BAARDMAN

February 5, 1954 - September 19, 2026

Joyce passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026, at Riverview Health Centre. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Joyce lived her life with faith, strength, and compassion. She spent her entire career as a laboratory technologist with the Government of Manitoba, bringing dedication and care to her work. Outside of work, she embraced life with the same determination and energy that characterized everything she did.

Joyce was always ready for a new adventure. A love of camping was instilled by her dad, who took the whole family tenting many times. As a young woman, she backpacked across Europe, beginning a lifetime of exploring the world. Her travels eventually took her across Canada, the US, Mexico, and Europe. If a zip-line, parasailing excursion, or unusual tour caught her eye, she was likely to give it a try. She loved walking and took pride in staying active, often reminding others to "just keep moving"!

Her garden was a great source of happiness. She took pleasure in the quiet beauty of growing things. She expressed her creativity through quilt-making and loved to share her beautiful creations with family and friends. Joyce also had a deep spiritual life and treasured the community she found at Gateway Church. Her faith was expressed not only in words but through a lifetime of service. She devoted thousands of hours to volunteering as a classroom aide at the King's School, helping newcomers learn English, and teaching at the Chai Immigrant Centre, where she also served on the Board. She gave generously of her time and was deeply caring, steadfast, and strong-willed, always ready to help.

She is survived by her stepmother, Alyce Baardman; brothers, Philip and Sam (Susan Israel); niece Rosalyn Dennett (Rob McLaren) and their children, Roberta and Lionel; and nephew Isaac Dennett (Rae Dennett) and their children, Levi and Taylor. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Gysberta and Filippus Baardman and her brother, John.

Please join us for a funeral to be held in her honour at Gateway Church, 745 Kapelus Dr., West St. Paul, on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a light lunch.

  • One of my fondest memories of Joyce was on our first trip to Kenora. She asked if we could stop at Prawda. I found it a strange request and asked her why. She said that everyone at work always spoke about Prawda. When we pulled into Prawda she looked shocked and said to me "This is Prawda! Two gas stations?" I told her that the draw to Prawda by everyone was the cheap gas where everyone filled up as they headed home. Her passing will be a loss for all who knew and loved her. My deepest and heartfelt condolences to Alyce, Phil, Sam and family. Rest in peace Joyce. - Posted by: Dianne Kennedy (life long friend) on: Sep 24, 2026
