We are devastated to announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Jonathan Kavanagh, on Monday, September 7, 2026.
Predeceased by his parents, Margaret and Peter. He leaves behind his wife, Cindy, sons, Matthew and Tyler, brother, James (Lori) and niece, Sarah.
Jonathan was born in Plymouth, England and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1970. He graduated from Dakota Collegiate in 1979. He worked at various businesses including Pic-a-Pop and Sun Life. In 1990, he found his true calling at Rumors Restaurant & Comedy Club and then in 2001, he continued and finished up his career at Casinos of Winnipeg / Manitoba Lotteries holding various management positions. Jonathan retired in 2023 and joyfully rediscovered his love of golf with his two sons.
Jonathan was a hospitality guy through and through. He was the kindest, most gentle and generous man who was loved so much by his family and friends. He will be so deeply missed by everyone.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Ignatius Parish with a celebration of Jonathan’s life to follow at Rumors.
Funeral arrangements handled by Glen Lawn Funeral Home.

Jonathan and I were friends for a number of years through Junior and Senior High School. We lived on the same street and would pass many a night playing street hockey with the other kids in the area. I used to make Jonathon laugh so much and we had a lot of fun hanging out together. I moved away to Toronto after high school and regretfully lost touch. I was very upset to read of his passing and I regret so much now not reaching out. Jonathon was a good person and good friend. My sincere condolences to his family. - Posted by: Mark Ive (School Friend) on: Oct 07, 2026

I had the pleasure and privilege to work with Jonathan at the Casinos of Winnipeg. He was such a kind and gentle man, always a smile on his face and a positive attitude. My deepest condolences to Cindy and their sons. May he rest in peace. - Posted by: Pat Vande Vyvere (Colleague) on: Sep 30, 2026

I was saddened to hear the news of Jonathan's passing. It had been many years since I had seen him, but I have told stories about him in the past few months. He was friends with my older brothers and that is how I came to work for him at Pic-a-Pop during high school. I then worked with him again during my time with Manitoba Lotteries. Always larger than life, quick with a joke and someone you wanted to be around. I will continue to tell stories of him and the many laughs he brought me. He will be missed. - Posted by: Christopher Fedak (Friend) on: Sep 27, 2026

I knew Jonathan through his wife, Cindy. Cindy and I went to high school together. Cindy found in Jonathan a man whom she could trust and who treated her well. She said to me once how happy she was being married and having children. I'm glad they had many good years together, and I'm sorry that Jonathan died so young. Love and hugs, Colleen - Posted by: Colleen Jones (Friend) on: Sep 27, 2026
