STEPHEN (STEVE) MICHAEL ROMANOW

It is with great sorrow I announce the passing of my beloved husband Steve Romanow, who slipped away peacefully at home September 14, 2026. He was 73.

Steve was predeceased by his parents, Julia and Steve Sr. Romanow. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Christine.

Steve entered this world May 31, 1953. He grew up in Transcona, in a loving home, and where he made many lifelong friends. Steve attended Blessed Sacrament, Holy Cross, and graduated from Murdoch McKay high school in 1971. After a year at university, Steve started working for the City of Transcona/Winnipeg. Early on, he worked as a mechanic’s helper, and in 1987 was certified as a Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic. He retired in 2003.

Steve loved anything with a motor, owning a variety of cars throughout the years, mostly Fords. He had an enviable collection of diecast models which remain proudly displayed throughout his home. Watching televised sports, such as motor racing, football, hockey, and baseball was a favourite pastime. He liked all kinds of music, but especially classic rock. Steve also enjoyed working on the cabin at Buffalo Point, a labour of love. There, he enjoyed nothing more than sitting on the deck with a glass of Jack Daniels or a PBR.

Steve had health issues in the last few years and more recently was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. In spite of this he remained positive and worked hard to maintain his independence. Steve was a kind, patient, and loving man. He was a great husband and a good friend to many.

Christine would like to thank the Winnipeg Fire, Paramedic and Police Services for their kindness and professionalism. She is also grateful for the outpouring of support received during this difficult time. Steve was loved and will be sorely missed.

If you wish, a donation can be made in Steve’s name to a charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.
