DORIS FAY
Doris Fay (née Picton) passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Surrounded by her children and grandchildren on the last day of summer, Doris left this world at the age of 74.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gerald (Gerry) Fay; her parents, Cecile (née Poirier) and Michel Picton; and her brother, Alain "Tooter" Picton.
Doris will be lovingly remembered by her children, Micheline, Rachelle (Gerald LaFreniere), Normand (Jeannette), and Gilbert; and by her cherished grandchildren, Nathan, Saidee, Luka, Gavin, and Morgan. She is also survived by her siblings, Fern (Kathleen), Jacqueline (Denis), Andrea (Robert), Leonie (Ken), Norbert (Lucette), Loraine (Marcel), and Richard (Lianne), along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Doris had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. She was not only a devoted mother and grandmother, but a mother figure to many. Her home was always filled with love, laughter, and homemade favourites, including pâté, pies, tourtière, and fried bread.
Born and raised in Somerset, Doris moved to Winnipeg at 18 and worked at The Peanut Factory before joining the kitchen at St. Boniface Hospital. She later dedicated 27 years to Drake Pharmacy, becoming a familiar and trusted face in Windsor Park, and finished her career as Postmaster at Rexall in Southdale before retiring in 2011.
Whether enjoying a long walk in Stephenfield or relaxing by the fire listening to her favourite music from the 1950s and 1960s, Doris found joy in life's simple pleasures. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for family will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, October 8, 2026 at the Norwood Community Centre, 87 Walmer Street, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
